TONS OF GOALS AND A SURPRISING WIN

Second day of matches in Lignano Sabbiadoro for the fourth IWAS Powerchair Hockey World Championship.

Lignano Sabbiadoro, 27th September 2018 – today there were 6 of the 12 games scheduled in the group stage of the powerchair hockey championship. Many emotions on the field with a historic victory of the Switzerland over the Netherlands champions and from the stands with the colored cheer of the numerous supporters present.

After the debut of Italy-Switzerland last night in Group A, this morning opened with the debut of Denmark and Belgium, the first teams competing in Group B, in which the Danish team won for 6 to 2. Then it was the turn of what will pass as a historical match: in the challenge between the Netherlands and Switzerland, in fact, the Swiss have surprisingly beaten the orange battleship for 5 to 4 breaking an unbeaten that lasted for 8 years (the last defeat dates back to 2010 when in Lignano Sabbiadoro Germany defeated the Dutch in the world final).

Still the circle A in the field with the hosts who impose themselves on the absolute new entry in the international Powerchair Hockey, Canada. The Americans pay the difficulties in adapting to a different regulation from their own and suffer the experience of a historic team like the Italian one with the match that ended on 22 to 0. Then came on to the field Belgium and Australia for a game that unexpectedly reveals itself fought demonstrating the great sports growth of kangaroos. The match, however, ended with the 12 to 3 victory for the northern Europeans.

In the late afternoon was the turn of Germany which with a clear 6 to 1 wins the first two points in Group B defeating Denmark. To end the day there was a very difficult match for Canada that has undergone the overwhelming strength of the world champions in charge: in fact, the Netherlands has not spared the fresh Americans scoring 33 goals and closing their door to any attempt to goal from the opponents.

 

 

The day was also animated by couple dance performances during the morning with the performances of Federica Trevisi and Luca Marchi and group dances presented by the Broadway Dance Studio of Udine. Entertainments that have pleasantly engaged the numerous and colorful public present.

Tomorrow will be staged the last 5 races that will decree the final classification of the groups and the access to the semi-finals with all the games visible in streaming on the website www.italy-2018.com or on youtube on the Powerchair Hockey channel.
