FIWH - FEDERAZIONE ITALIANA WHEELCHAIR HOCKEY
FIWH (Federazione Italiana Wheelchair Hockey) is the Italian federation that officially manages the powerchair hockey in the country.
FIWH, as we know it today, was founded in 2003, replacing the Wheelchair Hockey League, born in the middle of the ‘90s. Therefore, our sport has a pretty long history in Italy, 2018/19 will be the 24th Official Season.
FIWH is affiliated and recognized as full member sport federation by the CIP (Comitato Italiano Paralimpico).
Today, the federation counts 29 teams, divided into two divisions, Serie A1 and Serie A2. Every season ends with National Play-offs in order to determine the National Champions, the relegations and promotions for the next season. Over the last years the selected venue for those Playoffs has been Bella Italia EFA Village in Lignano Sabbiadoro, the same chosen by the LOC for the World Championship 2018.
In the background, other teams are training and recruiting players in order to be able to affiliate and take part in future seasons.
