Rome, 29 Jan 2018 – The Powerchair Hockey World Championships Organizing Committee is already working to set up an unforgettable competition that will make the history of wheelchair hockey. The major competition of a sport as much gorgeous as still unknown to most, will take place since 24 September until 1 October 2018 in Lignano Sabbiadoro, precisely at the Bella Italia EFA Village. The event, which will involve 8 national teams from all over the world, needs funding though: in fact the work and the willingness, first of all by the Organizing Committee, will not be enough if there is no economic basis to start from.
After the announcement about Italy winning the application to host the World Cup made the whole Italian hockey movement proud, the race to the World Championships kick-started from Udine the 2nd of November last year, at the beautiful scenario of Dacia Arena. As a matter of fact, in the press conference room of one of the best Italian stadiums, the World Cup has been displayed. This was in the presence of national and international authorities. Then Kevin Lasagna, top scorer of Udinese Football Club, has drawed the two rounds, defining this way the fate for the participating national teams: Group A for Holland, Italy, United States and Switzerland, on the other hand Group B for Belgium, Australia, Denmark and Germany.
Gone the thrill, the Committee is keeping the nose on the gridstone again. Fundraising has now become the priority. Searching for sponsorships is the crucial launch pad to achieve a successful event, even more when you talk about a sport competition of national impact. The call by President Stefano Occhialini is clear: “We believe we have a lot to offer. Not only to the audience and to the many fans of this marvellous sport but even to the companies that will be willing to join forces in order to create something really significant!”.
The main goal is indeed to realize a memorable event to reflect the sharp rise of the Paralympic sport movement, and in particular the one of Italian wheelchair, or powerchair, hockey. Passion, competitive spirit and inclusion are the values that the Organizing Committee wants to convey through this World Cup. Over seven days, 8 National teams (including Australia and United States – the latest for the first time in an international competition) will live in close contact, both challenging themselves on the court and locking in a large, colourful embrace outside the court, as only major sport events allow. Nevertheless, without funds none of it could happen.
The call is open to all the companies which are willing to join forces and sponsor the competition, but also to those interested in offering free partnership by making available their own capabilities. For info please email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call +39 338 8014651.
